SAD slams congress for unconstitutional arrest of Anna Hazzare and his followers

Shiromani Akali Dal today slammed Congress lead UPA government for bringing back the era of emergency by arresting Anna Hazare and his core team even before they could start their formal peaceful protest at the National capital on Tuesday morning.

In a statement issued here today SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal said that the mass scale arrests throughout the country reflect the level of panic of Congress leadership that wanted to scuttle any anti corruption movement fearing their imminent arrests in multi lakh crore scams.

He said that it was the black day for largest democracy of the world when its citizens were not allowed to carry out their peaceful protests against rampant corruption in the government and citizens were jailed without specifying any charge. He said that by curtailing the freedom of citizens on 65th Independence Day of the Nation, Congress party has pained the souls of all those known and unknown freedom fighters, who laid down their life for the country.

He said that Congress party was trying to repeat the experiment of emergency and Shiromani Akali Dal that had struggled for restoration of   fundamental rights during emergency, would stoutly oppose any attack on citizen’s freedom.
