University and College Teachers to Protest on Teachers’ Day


The executive committee of Punjab Federation of University and College Teachers Organisations (PFUCTO), in its meeting held at PAU Ludhiana decided to observe Teachers’ day (September 5) as protest day. Teachers will observe strike and hold a mass rally at rally ground, sector 25, Chandigarh.

In a joint statement, Prof. H S Kingra and Dr Jagwant Singh President and General Secretary of PFUCTO said that they have been constrained to give call as Pun jab Government has completely failed to address the grievances of University and College teachers. 

Teachers are demanding release of UGC pay scale arrears, pension for staff of aided colleges under the Act passed in 1999, full pension on completion of 20 years service on the pattern of Government of India, filling up of large number of vacant teaching posts, enhancement of retirement age to 65 years, greater state funding for teaching and research in the university system, early promotions under career advancement scheme, filling of key posts in the universities and colleges on regular bases and relaxation of refresher courses.
