Italiannies Pasta, Pizza & Vino

It's been a long time since I met my ex-colleagues. Got a chance to meet them up and we decided to take it up at somewhere between our working place, the Empire Subang. Strategically located, and lots of food in there. However I personally don't really like the place, the food there is plenty but mostly are generic franchise available in other shopping mall. It does not provide a good shopping experience as well, I mean it's pale comparing to Sunway Pyramid in terms of variety & scale, so I don't see the reason I should go there.

Anyway we got there at the wrong time, buka puasa. Our first choice of Rakuzen is packed, and our second choice of Chilies is also packed. We walked over to Itallianies and surprisingly half of the restaurant is empty. Hungry stomach and we are not willing to wait, so here we go.

Didn't manage to snap a photo of Itallianies, so I posted a photo of my ex-colleagues =) Just the three of us, others are mostly overseas or outstation. The company that I worked earlier is quite small, so we are very close to each other. It's hard to find such work friendship around anymore, just keeping it up and running. Nice. We are cows, so let's see what we got for food.

Both of them ordered the Grape Shake at RM8.50 each. Funny enough with the name and they actually said it's quite nice. It should be better if it's Strawberry Shake, which is also available. Didn't know Itallianies serve these.

For me, I know we are going to have a long seat taking our time to catch up with each other's life, I took up the bottomless 7-Up at RM6.80. Nothing healthier in the list, so no choice. They don't serve water, unless you choose to take up Acqua Pana 500ml at RM9.90. Funny.

Remember Italiannies motto? "Our food is designed for sharing", and we ordered 4 main dishes for the 3 of us!! Let's go.

Alright, first to come is the Garlic Chicken Pizza priced at RM29.90. It's quite funny choice, because the original Classic Pizza that we ordered is not available. I normally don't fancy thin crust pizza, so no exception to this. Overall, it's quite good but I still prefer to Classic Pizza, maybe because of the Capsicum? Hehe ...

Second up is the Lasagna Chicken priced at RM32.90. It's not one of my favourite because I think the layer is too thick and the chicken is killing it. The normal serving with beef is much better but my friend don't eat beef, so no choice. Overall the sauce is good only it should be better if it's served with beef. I enjoyed it though, just one of my favourite Italy food, so no complain =)

Then my favourite of the day, the Seafood Risotto priced at RM30.90. The mussel is good, the prawn & squid is incredible, but the main highlight is the italian rice! The Arborio rice simmered in white wine and cooked till wet & soggy. Exceptional sensation to your tastebud, but some may not like it due to the texture of the serving. While others are complaining it's too salty, but I just love it.

This should be our appetizer but it came last. The Quattro Platter priced at RM25.90. Three of us and 4 main dishes, yea, it's crazy. We are full like hell but we nearly finished everything. This plate served a combination of Deep Fried Risotto Balls, Calamari, Stuffed Mushrooms, and Zucchini Fritte. It's served together with Marinara sauce & Alfredo dressing for dipping. I love the Alfredo dressing and I almost finished the entire serving. It's not bad, but just remembre to ask them to serve the appetizer first and only serve the rest after you signal them. Wondering what kind of Italy dining experience they are talking about when they just throw everything out on the table.

After all that, that little girl suddenly craze for a piece of cake! After all that food! Crazy fella, she took up the Cheese Cake and it's nothing to shout at comparing to Secret Recipe's. Forget about dessert in Italiannies, just stick to their motto. Order large set and share among your friends for traditional Italy dining experience.

The entire dinner is totalled to RM192.30. It's quite expensive, because we ordered a lot! For this price, I think we got better choice out there. Didn't know that food quality in Italiannies has deteriorate and become so expensive. I didn't find the portion is very big though. I remember earlier they do serve free bread with vinegar in One Utama, but not here. Wondering why the different, maybe that's why it's empty? Anyway, this should be my last time in Italiannies, unless my next trip is a good experience.

Green View Restaurant @ PJ

It's been almost a week since my last post, getting very busy recently due to work load. However, I've been active with my personal lifestyle, with almost 9 outstanding post, approximately a post for each day. A little crazy, and I'm eating lots of food over the last week. Trying to get it all up here.

First to come is the famous Green View Restaurant located nearby the SS2 roundabout (Rothman's roundabout, I like to call it SS2 roundabout though). Prawn lover will never miss this place, but it's only my 2nd attempt. Unforgettable experience in my first visit, I suggested to my wife for a Friday dinner, just almost a few weeks after my 1st attempt. Green View is so famous that it's all packed with people and taking up 3 shops along the road side, most recognisable landmark from the SS2 roundabout.

The Green View Restaurant that's located nearby SS2 roundabout. It's famous and with this location, the food won't be cheap but it is still packed with people. The owner is definitely multi-millionaire with each table spending over hundreds for a dinner. Read on =)

A shot of the restaurant when we are leaving at 9.46pm and it's still basically almost fully packed. 2 of the shoplots are air-conditioned while another shop is not. Most of the people are around the air-conditioned area, enjoying the food and sipping red wine. Bloody incredible.

For those that dont know where / what is Green View Restaurant, it's basically a specialty house that served very very famous & delicious Sang Har Mee (Prawn Mee). Of course, this place served more than that ranging from normal fried rice to all kind of seafoods. However, the specialty still the Sang Har Mee. Above shown the important supplement to the Sang Har Mee, the Pickled Green Chili.

My wife asked me, take so many, can finish meh? I don't bother to reply, mainly because she don't know how to eat chinese food! Sang Har Mee must eat together with the pickled green chili, it's like oxygen to humanoid! Anyway, let's go on.

Here come our main highlight of the night. Sang Har Mee for two that's priced at RM 58.00. However, I'm reading other bloggers that mentioned the smallest portion cost only RM 38.00 but I told the owner that I wanted a big one for two person. Reason being I didn't enjoy or had enough for my 1st visit! A big one will fit both of us nicely, I think =)

My wife asked why I don't order something else to try out, I don't reply also. That's for her to find out after she started eating. Hehe ...

The plate is served with lots of Sang Mee, and not the usual type of yee mee that you can find at other outlet. The Sang Mee is very crispy and it's topped with a super crazily sinful Sang Har sauce that contained most of the prawn flavour!! You see, my mum's family is born fishermen and we always get lots of fresh seafood, especially those gigantic prawn that's reserved for family only. My dad always order it and cook for us. The most important in eating gigantic prawn is the flavour of the prawn itself that's so big & strong, till it can simmered into sauce / oil that's cooking it! This piece of art here did just that and imagine having all those sauce filled with prawn taste covering the yummilicious Sang Mee! It's Heaven like, and wait till the next shot.

The incredible Gigantic Fresh Prawn (Sang Har). Our plate is served with four of them! One is definitely good, but two of them will make you smiling as you sank your teeth into it, knowing there is another one waiting =) It's very very fresh and springy texture as well. This piece of Sang Har definitely match our family reserved only gigantic prawn that we are having. Want to know what fishermen family is eating? Try this!

My wife particularly don't really enjoy this, because she said the prawn is too big and it's a little rough on texture. She enjoyed the Sang Mee with the sauce though! Just forget about her and try it yourself, that's what I do =) hehe...

I peeled the prawn and take a shot of this just to make you drool. By just looking at it is making me feel like driving over now for another plate!

Just look at the size of the prawn. It took me a while just to savour the sauce around the whole body. I normally don't eat the head, because it's not healthy. But I cleared it off this time. The sauce is the main driving force here, and the mixture of the sauce with the red liquid is heaven like. Nothing I've eaten is like it before! Imagine holding up the prawn head, pour some sauce on it and sip it off from the shell itself together with the red liquid! Speechless ...

I took this to show my wife that I DO manage to finish off the pickled green chili. She don't want to talk to me after that =)

On our way out, I noted this. Somehow their crispy roasted suckiling piglet is also good, I heard. But their other specialty and famous is crab as well. I've yet to try, shall return with a bigger army next time to conquer it!

As we are walking out, I showed my wife the bill totalled to RM 69.86 with 5% + 5% of both service & tax. She nodded her head and said it's quite expensive. I knocked on her head and told her that gigantic prawn in there can easily cause over two hundred if she choose to eat it in a fancy restaurant! Importantly, can you actually find that gigantic prawn in other place? I don't think so! What's the conclusion?

A little pricy for a dinner of two, but worth every cents. Double thumbs up for food quality and I voted this place as the best Sang Har Mee over the whole Malaysia (never try oversea before, so humble a bit). You just have to try out the sauce to know what I'm talking about. I'm going to bring my dad over, he will cry when he eat this =) hehe, my mum is going to kill me ...

Why some Cambodians speak Russian

This is because the former USSR established a scholarship program in 1982 to send Cambodian students to study in Soviet universities free of charge. Since then, more than 8,000 Cambodians received their degrees in Russia and in the republics of the Soviet Union, according to the Russian Embassy in Cambodia.
Free college education is no longer available to all Russians, but the Russian government still provides funds to send a group of Cambodians to Russian universities every year. It covers full tuition, health insurance, and a stipend for living expenses. There are currently 110 Cambodians studying in Russian post-secondary schools, according to the embassy, a decline from the 1980s, when as many as 500 Cambodians attended Soviet colleges annually, says Sergei Kolesov, the director of the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Cambodia’s capital.
The center, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in February, caters to Russian-speaking Cambodians with a collection of Russian books and movies. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, many such centers closed – particularly the centers in Africa, Mr. Kolesov says – but the center in Cambodia still operates in the same building.
One of the people who benefited from an education in the USSR is Saing Soenthrith, an associate editor at a newspaper in Phnom Penh. Had it not been for a Russian scholarship he received in 1983, he never would have gone to university, he says.
Mr. Soenthrith, who still speaks Russian, says his parents were killed during the “Khmer Rouge times” and as a child he found shelter in a Buddhist monastery. After returning to Cambodia from Russia, however, Soenthrith became a teacher and later an editor.
“Sweet memories,” he says, as he looks through heaps of black-and-white photographs, naming his Russian friends and teachers. “I always remember.”

Foundation Program (Preparation for Teacher Training) in Cambodia

Cambodia is a country in extreme poverty. Thus, many children are taken out of school to work at an early age. Over 70% of Siem Reap's population has not completed a primary education. Drop-out and repeat rates at all levels are high. Only 18% of appropriately-aged students are enrolled in lower secondary school and only 8% are enrolled in upper secondary school.
In the villages we visited, we met many bright, highly motivated young people who wanted to become teachers, but who lacked the basic academic preparation to enter a teacher training program.
Teach Cambodia offers a series of courses to assist potential teacher candidates in gaining basic academic competence necessary to become a successful teacher. These include Khmer language study (Khmer grammar, reading and writing), mathematics, and foreign language study.
