It was fat, pyramidal, bright white, fleshy grub with a brown head. Unfortunately I can’t find any pictures. But the best way to describe the larvae (I apologize for lack of a better parallel) is that it looked like the wrinkled head of a pale-white penis with a peanut sticking halfway out of the urethra. The grub attaches itself to a rotting tree, and just writhes its head all around. Grotesque! But alas, cultural differences reign supreme, for this penis grub was the greatest delicacy of all . . . you just close your eyes, pop the juicy sucker into your mouth – whole and raw – and savor.
