Reflection pool at Angkor Wat, Cambodia

I visited a children’s hospital called the Angkor Hospital for Children and run by ’Friends Without Borders’, also known as Doctors Without Borders, consisting largely of foreign doctors and volunteers. Together, they have treated 264,992 out-patients and 13,921 in-patients since January 1999. With no government subsidy or support of hospitals, the average Cambodian, who comes to receive treatment, pays about 1,000 Riel a visit, the equivalent of 25 US cents, but to some, it might as well be the equivalent of $25,000. The hospital which has approximately 50 beds, and two surgeons who perform approximately 70 surgeries a month, is a surging sea of humanity, with weak, crying children waiting for hours to be seen.
