MC loses face on Facebook Most complaints either go unnoticed or unattended to

Umesh, an engineer, posted a complaint on the Municipal Corporation’s (MC) Facebook page about the need to repair a dug-up road in Sector 40 on July 13 for the second time. He had earlier complained on June 29. MC officials responded saying that the matter “had been forwarded to the department concerned”. Nothing has been done to date.

Dilip Kumar, a resident, posted his complaint on August 18 about an encroachment in front of SCOs 44 to 47 in Sector 47. He got a response from the MC after a week that his complaint had been forwarded to the official concerned. But no action has been taken.

These are only two out of scores of examples of the MC’s lopsided complaint redress system under the Citizen Charter. The charter was adopted by the MC in 2004. The charter clearly detailed the response time of each complaint for which officials were designated. For the record, the MC’s official website has posted all details of rules framed under the charter.

Social Networking: Facebook - Adding Friends

Facebook For Internet Marketing Newbies!

My first tip for you is to use a separate Facebook account for running your business. Whilst it's nice to show everyone you have a human side, like to have fun and indulge in a bit of banter, it's for the best to maintain a professional approach to your marketing. You don't have to be a marketing robot but people who are interested in your business will be more likely to respond to something you've posted relating to internet marketing rather than a post about taking your dog for a walk!

My second tip is to use a good picture for your profile and use your real name. You can go for the standard business attire like a suit or something smart casual. Either way, looking professional is a good idea. There's nothing overly wrong with looking like you're having fun but pulling a stupid face or holding a can of beer could possibly give people a different impression to the one you're trying to make. Also, focus on your face and make sure it's clear to see. People always like to put faces to names and vice versa.

Adding Friends

To build up relationships and help put your name out there look to add around 25 targeted friends per day. 'Targeted' means relevant to you and your business. You're wasting your time if you add somebody who has no interest in what you do. Find people interested in Internet Marketing. Search through group pages on 'Making Money Online' etc because these are the people that have an active interest in what you do and a friendship will be formed easily.

Because you'll start your account with zero friends you need to make sure you don't look like somebody who randomly adds because Facebook frowns upon that and could ban you. To start with add people you already know within the industry (your mentor etc) and then go for the people who they are already friends with. These people will see you know the said person and will almost certainly accept your request.

DO NOT ADD 25 IN A ROW!

Spread out these requests through out the day as Facebook will cotton on to your multiple adds and ask you not to send the request if you don't know the person. You'll end up with warnings and possibly a ban. 25 per day, week in week out is perfectly safe. You'll soon notice that once you've built up a friend list of over 500 people, you'll end up getting more and more requests from like-minded people and your list will explode.

I have over 2,200 friends. When I first started I was adding 25 a day and hitting my targets. Within a couple of months people were adding me. Sometimes I would log in after a couple of days of not checking my adds and have 50 plus requests. One time, after a mini-holiday I came back to 78 requests!

Tip:

To begin with put a nice message in with your request to each person. Something like "Hi, I've seen your profile and think it would be great if you would accept my friend request. I'm looking to meet and network with like-minded people to share values and opinions. Thanks." Anything like this will do, although most people understand that gaining a friend is always worthwhile for many reasons so I've personally found that after you've built up a decent friend list a simple add will do just fine.

Google+ grows explosively in first week

Back-of-the-envelope maths by entrepreneur and founder of Ancestry.com Paul Allen suggests that Google’s new social network Google+ had 1.7m users worldwide after just one week. Launched on June 28thto a limited group of users, Google+ proved so popular that invitations to new users had to be temporarily limited.
Allen estimated Google+’s popularity by counting the number of users with a given surname, e.g. Cooke and comparing that number to the total number of Cookes in the US to produce the percentage of Cookes on Google+. Multiplying this by the total US population gives a rough figure for how many users are on Google+. He repeated that calculation with 79 other rare surnames to verify the result.
Allen’s results indicate that by July 4th, there were “515,933 users in the U.S, and 1,226,136 outside the US for a total of 1,742,069 users”. Google itself has not provided any official statistics for the popularity of Google+.
Competing head-to-head with Facebook (500m users) and Twitter (200m users), Google+ has a long way to go before it catches up. Tight integration with other Google products such as GMail and Google Documents via the newly reworked Google navigation bar means that this rapid adoption is likely to continue. Users are already hoping to see Google+ working seamlessly with Translate and Reader, which would ensure that the fledgling social network continues to expand.
For website owners, Google+ is already a valuable source of traffic, with TechCrunch reporting that it is already in their top ten referrers:
Well, since its launch last Tuesday, Google+ has already cracked our top ten referring sites. It currently resides just behind Digg in that timespan. If you narrow that down to just count July so far (a few days after launch, so more users had time to sign up), the numbers are even better. It would already be the number seven referrer, just behind Hacker News. And it’s already a fifth as large as the leading social referrer, facebook.com.
Even without its heft, Google+ is already giving Facebook a run for its money. But it’s not just other social networking sites that should worry. Google+’s video conferencing feature, Hangout, takes on the voice-over-IP incumbents like Skype or Ribbit. Skype, recently bought by Microsoft, has begun surveying users about call quality after every call, so is clearly concerned about the issue. If Google+ can provide a more reliable, higher quality experience, users will defect.
It’s a little too early after only a week to read the tealeaves, but rumours that Google has ideas about adding games and Q&As show that Google+ certainly has ambition. Google has never been a shrinking violet and in one fell swoop, Google+ has made a strong entry into several profitable markets.

Now, hide Facebook from your boss by converting it into an Excel sheet!

Now, you can easily check your Facebook account at your work place without the fear of being caught by your boss.

A website developed by a university student allows you to automatically convert your Facebook news feeds into an Excel spreadsheet, reports the Herald Sun.

Users can instantly see what their friends are up to on Facebook with updates appearing as new spreadsheet rows.

Uploaded pictures and videos can be viewed by hovering over the entries, and users can interact by "liking" the updates with a simple click on the spreadsheet.

The page, with its intentionally corporate look, is slyly titled "daily cash reconciliation" so wasting work time appears to nosy onlookers as diligent financial work.

The HardlyWork.in site was created by Yale computer science major Bay Gross, 20, after a friend doing a government internship told him she had to wait until after work to read his Facebook updates.
