Too much gaming makes kids obese, violent: Survey

Excessively playing video games can generate a greater risk of obesity, aggressive and violent behaviour in children and teenagers, finds a new survey.

The recent survey by Assocham reveals that over 82 per cent of teenagers spend an average of 14-16 hours per week playing games on computer, web portal or consoles and about 7 per cent of children surveyed qualified as being pathological video gamers (over 20 hours per week).

Gaming is taking away time that could be spend on activities that have educational benefits. Compulsive gamers display signs of diminished empathy, increased aggression and conflicts at home, school and work. It could also create problems and lead to poor social skills.

Rising addiction to video games include easy availability of resources and absence of quality parental care reveals the survey conducted under Assocham's Social Development Foundation (SDF).

Over 2,000 teenagers and 1,000 parents were interviewed by Assocham-SDF during April 2011 to June 2011 in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Patna, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru and Jaipur.

The sample included almost an equal number of males and females in the age group of 8-18 years.

About 84 per cent (ages 8 to 18) of children said they played violent games when they were alone than with their parents. About 76 per cent prefer to play action games and 45 per cent of gamers, who shows signs similar to addiction, are also more likely to have a video game system in their bedroom.A total of 1,200 teens (76 per cent) played video games.

About 20 per cent of the gamers were girls and female gamers were found to spend an average of 30 minutes playing on the weekdays and one hour playing on the weekends. Male gamers spend an average of 50 minutes playing on the weekdays and 2-3 hours playing on the weekends.Gamers who are going to school account for 72 per cent and college students at 28 per cent.

Second test confirms drug use by 3 athletes

The doping scandal in Indian athletics took yet another disastrous turn with the ‘B’ sample of Juana Murmu, Sini Jose and Tiana Mary bringing major disappointment to not only the athletes, but entire sports fraternity.

The National Dope Testing Laboratory on Monday confirmed that all three athletes had failed their ‘B’ sample tests. Now, their fate depends on the decision of the Anti-Doping Disciplinary panel of the NADA.

Giving information in this regard, director general of NADA Rahul Bhatnagar confirmed that all three of them had failed their dope tests. “We have served them a second notice. We have also sent a copy of the results to the Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel headed by Dinesh Dayal in this regard. Dayal will decide the date for their hearing before the panel either on Monday or Tuesday,” he added.

When questioned about the future course of action for Punjab athlete Mandeep, he said her ‘B’ sample had already been found positive during tests done by the IAAF.

SAINA STARTS FAVOURITE AT INDIAN OPEN

Saina Nehwal, the doubles combination of G. Jwala and Ashwini Ponnappa, apart from Malaysia’s world number one Lee Chong Wei, return to the Siri Fort Sports Complex here with memories of another day.

In October last, these leading badminton stars claimed gold medals in the Commonwealth Games in contrasting ways. They are all looking for an encore from a packed house once the inaugural $200,000 India Open Super Series begins on Tuesday.

However, the Chinese have stayed away due to their National League but the field still offers plenty of depth in all five sections. The showpiece event will, as always, be the men’s singles, where Lee Chong Wei, world number two and former Olympic Gold medallist Taufik Hidayat and world number six, former world champion Denmark’s Peter Gade are the star attractions.

But the Indian interest will only more in the ladies singles for two reasons – the prospects of Saina winning the title and the lack of serious Indian challenge in the men’s section. Saina, ranked fourth in the world, was hopeful of repeating her title-winning sequence. Winner of the Swiss Open this year, Saina said, “It is going to be tough but I am confident of doing well again. I have trained hard and my ankle is much better,” assured the Hyderabad girl, who has been nursing an ankle injury in the season so far.

Saina is drawn to play Japanese girls Ai Guto in the opening round with the prospect of facing Indonesia’s Maria Kusumastuti before the much-awaited quarterfinals against Japan’s Eriko Hirose. Hirose had ended Saina’s run in the All England championship in March but the Indian avenged the defeat the following week on way to the Swiss Open title.

The presence of other Indian girl, National champion Aditi Mutatkar, does not promise much. Four other qualifiers, mostly Indians, will complete the 32-player draw on Tuesday evening. In the men’s singles, India’s best hope P. Kashyap is drawn to play Hidayat in the second round. National champion Arvind Bhat, Ajay Jayaram, Guru Sai Dutt and Anand Pawar are the other Indians in main draw.

Some more will join after Tuesday’s qualifying rounds. Besides, Saina, the country’s best title prospect is in the ladies doubles were Jwala and Ashwini are confident of going all the way. Seeded eighth, the Indian girls gain strength from the fact that they have beaten the top two Japanese seeds, favourite Madeka Miyuki-Suetsuna Satoko and Fujii Mizuki-Kakiiwa Reika, at least once.

“We skipped the Asian championship to prepare for this event,’ said an articulate Jwala and continued, “we are well prepared but I do not want to look beyond the first match. We will take it as we go along.” Jwala did feel sad about the fact that the event has not been publicised at all. “On my way to the hotel (from the airport), I noticed that there was not a single hoarding any where. Even outside the stadium, there is nothing. It really feels sad.”

Indian women shuttlers express reservations on new dress code

Reacting to a new rule that mandates skirts for female badminton players, the acting chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW) Tuesday said that forcing a dress code to make a game attractive was 'wrong'.

'Sports should be treated as sports. Forcing a dress code to make a game attractive is wrong,' Yasmin Abrar said.
'What is important is your performance and not what you wear. If required, we will write to the Badminton World Federation (BWF),' she added.
The BWF has introduced the guideline in an effort to glamourise the sport. It will be implemented from May 1.

Indian women shuttlers express reservations on new dress code
Indian women shuttlers Tuesday expressed reservations on the the Badminton World Federation (BWF) initiative to glamorise the sport by making it compulsory to wear skirts on the court.

The new dress code comes into effect from May 1 and it requires the players to wear skirts or dresses in Grand Prix events and above.

India's highest ranked women's player and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Jwala Gutta said the new dress code will not affect her as she is used to wearing skirts but will bother those who are used to wearing long shorts.

"I am comfortable with skirts and dresses both. But other players might not be comfortable doing the same. A lot of them wear shorts as they find comfort in that," Jwala told IANS.
"It is good that the world body wants to glamorise the sport but you can't impose what to wear and what not wear to anyone. We have a right to choose what to wear."

Saina Nehwal, who generally wears shorts, however said she does not have any problem with the new ruling.

"It is not an issue. It is always difficult to accept something new," he said.

Jwala's doubles partner Ashwini Ponappa concurred with her teammate's views.

"I feel happy about the new code as I am comfortable wearing it. But I know a lot of girls would not be comfortable. It is quite interesting for those who like it," Ponnappa said.

"A lot of Indian players like wearing shorts as they have always played with shorts but now they will have to wear skirts, something which they are not used to," she added.

This apex body's decision to popularise can be linked to tennis in which women players are seen wearing designer and colourful outfits on the court.

Jwala, suggested, rather than forcing players to wear skirts, the BWF should tell the sponsors to start making designer dresses.

"The federation should have tell all the sponsors to start making colourful dresses for the players. This is one way we can glamorise the sport. But I still feel players who are not comfortable with it should not be forced," she said.

Let’s join!

Trik Jadi Penjahat Hebat di game online The Crims

1. MencuriIni dia tempatnya segala macam kejahatan bersumber.

2. Investasi
Kalo keuangan kita udah kuat ada baiknya kita mulai berbisnis. Pilihannya terserah, mau bikin club atau bikin kasino. Yang penting jangan sampe rugi.

3. Sabotase

Prosessor konvensional Cuma mampu menjalankan satu perintah thread.

Kartu grafis 500-MHz ATI plus 10 MB DRAM tambahan. Dengan kartu prosessor grafis 500-MHz aja udah gokil, eh ditambah 10 MB DRAM yang bikin tenaga tambahan buat GPU X Box 360.

Persamaannya adalah baik PS3 maupun X Box 360 sama-sama mendukung teknologi HD TV (High Definition Television). Makanya gambar grafisnya bakal cemerlang pol kalo pake tv plasma.

Belum lagi kedua konsol mendukung format media digital DVD denerasi terbaru. PS3 bakal nge-back up teknologi Blu-ray disc yang bisa menyimpan data 54 giga byte.

Berarti kita kudu ngeluarin duit sekitar Rp 15-20 juta (konsol + TV Plasma + DVD game asli) kalo mau main game maksimal.
Ngajak miskin banget kan???
