Ludhiana's Sadar Police Station adjudged as best in India by UN affiliate
A police station in Ludhiana has been declared as the best in the country by Altus Global Alliance, which works with the United Nations (UN) for enhancing public safety measuresAltus Global Alliance declared Sadar Police Station as the best during its 'Police Station Visitor Week Competition'.
Paramjay Singh, Station House Officer of Sadar Police Station, said that the station received accolades from the delegation members in terms of facilities.
"Across India our police station, Sadar Police Station, has been awarded as the best police station by Altus global Alliance," Singh said.
The police station has separate desks to attend to women and children, facilities for disabled, courteous behavior, cleanliness, a well-equipped control room, a library and even a waiting room for visitors.
"It's unlike old police station, it is really good and is well equipped with many facilities. The facilities are installed keeping in view the needs of the people coming here. If there is a complainant who needs wheel chair they provide that also. They have made arrangements for women as well, there are proper water services and it is really good," said Sajan Singh, a visitor.
Unlike other police stations where detainees squat on floors, proper bedding and mattresses have been provided to make their stay comfortable.
Those coming to seek justice get their applications written by a policeman deputed to do this job.
Altus Global delegates surveyed 18 countries and from each country a police station was declared as the best.

Pakistani visitors take back 'bagfull of good memories'
Pakistanis, who had come to witness the semi-final match between India and Pakistan at Mohali Wednesday, praised the "warmth and hospitality" extended to them here and said they would take back a "bagfull of good memories".
"Initially we really felt dejected over Pakistan's loss but the dejection faded away in minutes. In fact, later we also celebrated India's win by dancing to beats of the dhol with our new friends outside the PCA stadium," Mushtaq Mohammad, 24, a Karachi-based media studies student, told IANS.
"My visa is till April 3 and now I will spend the next three days, sight-seeing in Punjab and Chandigarh. I will visit historical gurudwaras and masjids (mosques) in this part of India," he said.
Saeeda Diep, director of Lahore-based Institute for Peace and Secular Studies, told IANS: "This was a very enriching trip and we saw a healthy exchange between the youngsters of both countries. It was a win-win
situation. Tomorrow (Friday) we are returning to Lahore with a bagfull of good memories and experience."
"Winning or losing are part of the game, so we are not at all disappointed with the result of yesterday's match. Best thing is that government of two countries had chosen this sporting extravaganza as an opportunity to break the ice and initiated the dialogue process," Ayesha Arif, a young film director from Lahore, told IANS.
She added, "I am very impressed with the warmth and hospitality of Punjabis here. We also invite them to come to Lahore and give us a chance to act as a perfect host for them."
Around 400 Pakistani cricket fans, including officials and relatives of the players, had crossed over into India through the Attari-Wagah check-post, during the last seven days.
Earlier the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) had given only 50 tickets to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) but seeing the craze among Pakistan fans they sent 200 more passes Monday.
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani had also come to see this high-voltage day-night match. However, Gilani returned the same night.
Imran Ehsan, who was part of the crew of Gilani's aircraft, told IANS: "I cannot express my feeling of coming to India in words. We certainly want to break the barriers between the two countries and I guess that sports are the best medium for it."

Good mood can fog your memory
Though good mood brings along cheerfulness and positive feelings, it is also linked with forgetfulness, as such a state of mind decreases your working memory capacity.
"Working memory, for example, is the ability to recall items in a conversation as you are having it," said Elizabeth Martin, doctoral student of psychology at the University of Missouri College of Arts and Science, who led the study.
"This explains why you might not be able to remember a phone number you get at a party, when you are having a good time. This research is the first to show that positive mood can negatively impact working memory storage capacity," said Martin, the journal Cognition and Emotion reports.
Researchers gauged participants' mood before and after showing them a video clip. Some were shown a segment of a stand-up comedy routine, while others watched an instructional video on how to install flooring, according to a Missouri statement.
Following the videos, those who viewed the comedy routine were in significantly better moods after viewing the video, while the mood of those who viewed the flooring video had not changed.
After watching the videos, both groups completed a memory test. Those who watched the comedy routine and were in a better mood performed significantly worse on the task.
