Kharar, Ropar colleges favourite shooting spots for Punjabi videos
The colleges situated in Kharar and Ropar have become favourite shooting spots for the crews hunting youthful locations to shoot Punjabi videos and films.

Latest to successfully go on air and strike a note with the youngsters is the song Yaar Anmulle by singer Sherry Mann. A reminiscent of good old colleges days, the song tops amongst the chart of most heard Punjabi song.

Shot at Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC), Landran campus, the song has much more of college element other than location. Student of the CGC, Landran, Akashdeep Singh, alias Babbu, from the IT first semester has penned the song and Harvinder Cheema from mechanical engineering final semester has composed it.

“Impressive infrastructure and buildings attract the directors of these videos and films. Proximity to Chandigarh, which is well-connected with Delhi and Mumbai, adds to the charm of shooting in colleges,” feels Satnam Singh Sandhu, chairman of the CGC, Landran and Gharuan.

Trend has picked up in last 4-5 years with an increased number of Punjabi singers cutting an album. Besides Sherry Mann, established singers like Manmohan Warris and Sippy Gill too have shot their videos at the CGC Landran campus.

Besides this, the college campus has also played host to shooting of movies like “Des Hoya Pardes” starring Gurdas Mann and Juhi Chawla.

“Punjab’s scenic beauty has always been in demand for Bollywood production houses. Since most of the movies today are youth oriented, we need impressive buildings to depict a youthful campus, mansion like college buildings and well-trimmed lawns add to the zing in films,” says Darshan Singh Aulakh from Aulakh Film Production. Aulakh arranges shooting locations and artists for Boyllwood production houses like Yashraj in Punjab.

Besides the CGC, Rayat-Bahra Group’s campuses at Kharar and Rail Majra, near Ropar too have played host to such productions.

Assistant managing director Sandeep Kaura, Rayat-Bahra group said shooting is allowed on the campus only during non-working days such as Saturday and Sunday. The latest to shoot on Rayat-Bahra Rail Majra campus was Harbhajan Mann. Besides him, Babbu Mann has shot his movie at the college campus, including couple of Punjabi singers such as Raj Brar, Miss Pooja, Deep Dhillon, Amarjit and Jeeta Productions.

Similarly, parts of a Punjabi serial were shot at Guru Gobind Singh College of Modern Technology.
