Punjabi University to construct Sri Guru Granth Sahib Bhawan


Punjabi University will construct a new monumental building to be named as Sri Guru Granth Sahib
Bhawan, among other 
things, to mark its golden jubilee year celebrations. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the University syndicate, held under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jaspal Singh here today.

The syndicate welcomed and agreed to the proposal of the Vice-Chancellor to increase the pay packages of the employees working on contractual basis and putting them in regular scale.

 It was decided to increase the monthly wages of those employees, who were working on a fixed salary of Rs 4,000 to Rs 6,000 and of those who were working on Rs 6,000 to Rs 8,000. The Vice-Chancellor's suggestion that the contractual employees, having minimum of three years of regular service in the University and possessing good service record, should be appointed on ad hoc basis in the regular scale was also affirmed by the syndicate. A screening committee will be constituted to determine the eligibility, other conditions and modalities for this purpose.


The meeting gave its nod to add Environmental Sciences to the nomenclature of Department of Zoology and for starting a new course of M.Sc. Environmental Sciences. It also gave its approval to start new courses on the University campus and its various neighbourhood campuses.These, among others, include B.A. (Hons) in Journalism, Mass Communication and Media Technology; B.Sc. in Tourism Management, PG Diploma courses in Child Care and Skill Development; Computer Maintenance & Networking; Internet and Web Designing; Sikh Theology; Agricultural Marketing and BBA/MBA by newly established School of Applied Management from the forthcoming session.
