SUKHBIR HAS ALL THE QUALITIES TO BECOME CM: MAJITHIA

In a statement, that may be read as going against the Punjab Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, the newly appointed president of Youth Akali Dal (YAD), Bikram Singh Majithia, on Monday said that the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has all the qualities to become the chief minister of Punjab.

“Sukhbir has all the qualities to become a chief minister. He can handle any issue,” Majithia said. He was talking to journalists on way to Golden Temple in Amritsar to pay obeisance after taking charge as the YAD president. Majithia said that under Sukhbir’s vision the infrastructure has improved greatly in the state and over 80,000 jobs have been created in the government sector.
When asked whether it was not the right time to project Sukhbir as the chief ministerial candidate for 2012 assembly elections, Majithia said: “It is not me who has to decide about such issues. It is the prerogative of the chief minister of Punjab and the party.” Talking about the future plan of action, he said the YAD will ‘gherao’ the Parliament during the monsoon session to highlight the misgovernment of the UPA government.

“We will expose the UPA on the issues of corruption, price rise and anti-Punjab and anti- Sikh policies,” Majithia said. About the expected quota for YAD candidates in the coming assembly elections, he said that it would be decided by the party high command. “But we expect minimum 33 per cent tickets for YAD,” he added. Earlier in Amritsar, the YAD president said it was high time youth came forward and fought the evils of drugs addiction, dowry and corruption.

Show of strength leads to traffic snarls:Youth Akali Dal (YAD) Bikram Singh Majithia’s road trip from Chandigarh to Amritsar turned into a huge show of strength with party activists laying siege to the busy National Highway-1. The daily commuters and long route passengers faced a hard time. Traffic remained at standstill at several places on the NH. At places huge cavalcades - of 100s vehicles or more carrying YAD supporters - were spotted.

Traffic could not be cleared till late in the evening. Thousands of YAD workers who had been waiting since morning and had lined up on both sides of the GT Road were served Langer (community food) at various places. The leftovers, paper plates, cups and mugs were thrown on the roads.
