Pradeep Sra BFGI's star in the grand finale of Voice of Punjab

Baba Farid Group of Institutions is overjoyed at the selection of Pradeep Sra, student of B.C.A III year as one of the five finalists of Voice of Punjab, PTC Punjabi talent hunt show. He has been shortlisted as one of the top five singers after a series of competitions among budding Punjabi singers from all over the country. He was amongst the 6 finalists in Voice of Punjab last year.

Pradeep Sra was born in a family of performing artists on March 30, 1992 in village Azam wala (Fazilka) and started performing as early as in Nursery class. His father, Prakash Sra is a talented folk singer and mother, Amrit Sra is also an artist, besides serving as a teacher in a school. Pradeep bagged a gold medal in the college Youth festival for singing. Besides singing, he actively participates in Skits, Drama and Choreography. He also has performed well in academics consistently. Pradeep has a keen interest in sports; he plays hockey, basketball and football and has won laurels at State level for the institute.

As a student, he won most of the Inter-School Singing competitions. He acknowledges the support and encouragement that he received from his parents, the Institute, teachers and friends. The BFGI family congratulates Pradeep for being one of the finalists in Voice of Punjab Season 2 amongst 64 competitors and making the Institute proud and wishes him greater success in his musical career and life. Pradeep’s attire and his songs have highlighted the spirit of Punjab throughout the competition.

Punajb creates two new districts of Pathankot and Fazilka

The Punjab Cabinet today approved the creation of Fazilka and Pathankot as the new districts of the state following the recommendations of the committee of Deputy Chief Minister  Sukhbir Singh Badal and Local Government Minister Tiksan Sud.

A decision to this effect was taken here at a meeting of the Cabinet chaired by the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal this evening.

Disclosing this here a spokesperson of the Punjab government said that with this decision the total number of districts in Punjab had gone up from 20 to 22. Newly created Fazilka district would consist of three sub-divisions viz Fazilka, Jalalabad and Abohar besides three sub-tehsils Arniwala Sheikh Suban, Sito Guno and Khuian Sarwar. Likewise, the Pathankot district would comprise two sub-divisions of Pathankot and Dharkalan along with two Sub-Tehsils namely Narot Jaimal Singh and Bamial. The cabinet also approved the creation of posts of officers as well as the ministerial staff for these two newly created districts according to the government norms.

The Cabinet also approved the upgradation of Sub-Tehsil Dharmkot in Moga district and Sub-Tehsil in Guru Harsahai in Ferozepur district as new sub-divisions besides giving approval for the creation of new posts for these newly upgraded sub-divisions.

The Cabinet also gave nod to promulgate ordinance for the establishment of Guru Ki Kashi Self Financed University at Talwandi Sabo in Bathinda district.

At last, Fazilka gets dist HQ status

After the residents of the border town received the news of Fazilka being declared a new district of Punjab, they celebrated the event like a feast. The residents thronged the historic Clock Tower where the months-long agitation was started last year.

Sustained struggle of the people for over two decades and support by Fazilka MLA and Cabinet minister Surjit Kumar Jyani, who had declared to get district headquarters status for Fazilka succeeded at last.

Jyani, who was overjoyed with the decision, said he has fulfilled his promise and duty towards the people of Fazilka, who had shown confidence in him. He thanked the CM Parkash Singh Badal for taking the appropriate decision.

Sanjha Morcha convener Sushil Gumber and member Raj Kishore Kalra, who had been leading the agitation for getting the district headquarter status, said it is a victory of the people of the area. 

Graduate Welfare Association general secretary Navdeep Asija said the century old historical town, which was one of the oldest sub-divisional headquarters of the state, got its due recognition at last. "The decision would boost the economy of the newly carved out border district and provide more employment avenues to the younger generation," he added.
