Proud of Indian in New Zealand, an Indian awarded “Queen’s Service Medal”


On the occasion of celebration of Queen’s birthday,

Harkrishen Singh Kang, a Punjabi in Hamilton, has been awarded “Queen’s Service Medal” for his distinguished services to Indian Community.

A versatile community leader par excellence and has been serving the Indian community for over 50 years.

Proud of Punjabis, formed dairy farmer, Harkrishen Singh Kang, hails from village Chhokaran, Punjab and migrated along with his family to New Zealand in 1954. Since the day Harkrishen Kang arrived in New Zealand is actively involved in Indian community welfare work.

Three times president of New Zealand Sikh Society, one of the oldest Sikh Society in New Zealand, Harkrishen Kang is foundation member of the society. He will again stand for president post of the society this year.

In 1968, the year when Hamilton Sikh Temple was set up, Kang’s father, Gurdas Singh was the president of the New Zealand Sikh Society and he was treasure of the society.

Harkrishan is a highly dedicated community leader with a strong desire to serve with zeal and enthusiasm and his impeccable contribution to the community.
Kang loves Indian culture, heritage and traditions to promote the same in the New Zealand and his schedule is always busy with several social and community service projects on hand all the time.

Harkrishen Kang has been life time member of Country Section Indian Association and Central Indian Association.

Former president of Indian Cultural Society and current president of Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin, Kang is committed to serve the society always. “I am really grateful to NZ government and community for giving me that much respect and honour. I am always committed to serve the community. Indian community is growing in New Zealand and more important than ever for us to stay united and should make India and New Zealand proud on us by our actions. I am also thankful to God to give me the opportunity to serve our community,” he added.
