Capt Amarinder dares Mr Badal to debate who is real enemy of Punjab

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today challenged Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal to an open debate to settle once for all as who was the real enemy of Punjab, the Congress, as Badal had often been alleging, or the Akalis who really are and have always been.

He said, Akalis by demanding the “Punjabi Suba” and forcing its formation had done great disservice to the state for their petty partisan and parochial aim of forming the government which, however, they could never do of their own even till today.

Reacting to Mr Badal’s allegations at Longowal on Saturday where he accused the Congress of being the enemy of Punjab, the PCC President asked Mr Badal, “you choose your place and time to debate and let the people of Punjab judge for themselves as who is speaking the truth”.

Asserting that the Akalis were the only enemies of Punjab, Capt Amarinder pointed out, it was they who fragmented Punjab into small parts and pieces with the sole motive to form a government in Punjab. “Even after breaking Punjab into pieces they (the Akalis) have not been able to form the government of their own and they have always needed the crutches of other parties for their support”, he pointed out.

The former Chief Minister said, it is for the first time that a political party that claims to be the guardian of Punjab and Punjabiyat, for its narrow partisan interests broke it into three states, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. In the process, he added, they surrendered more than two third of land and resources to these two states
